HOSTED BY THE NEW ENGLAND HISTORIC GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

Robert Charles Anderson, author of "Great Migration Series," talks about the English immigrants who settled in Boston from 1630 to 1645, who they were & where they lived.

BOSTON IN 1645 WALKING TOUR

Robert Charles Anderson, author of "Great Migration Series," will meet participants at Faneuil Hall, proceed through the oldest streets of Boston, describe the city in 1645, and point out places where the first settlers of Boston lived.

2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Starting point is the Samuel Adams statue in front of Faneuil Hall.

A VISIT WITH ANNE BRADSTREET

“Meet” America’s first published poet, Anne Bradstreet (portrayed by Catherine Hommes), who sailed on the Arbella fleet and lived in Ipswich for many years. Introduced by author, lecturer, and Bradstreet scholar Miriam Butts, Mistress Bradstreet will read passages from her poetry. Tour the 1677 Whipple House, a National Historic Landmark, and its authentically reproduced “housewife’s garden”.

Those joining the tour will get a vivid view of a small town (Boston) founded on the edge of the wilderness in 1630. Stops include the Town Dock, site of the First Meeting House,
Sentry Hill, King’s Chapel, and more.

Their will be two tours:
Will Holton will leave from First Church in Boston at 2 p.m.
Stephen Busby will leave from the Old State House at 2 p.m.

Francis Bremer, Professor of History at Millersville University and editor of "The Winthrop Papers of the Massachusetts Historical Society", will discuss "John Winthrop's Vision and the Evolution of the Boston Community." The lecture will be followed by an informal reception where Professor Bremer will be available to sign his book,
"John Winthrop: America's Forgotten Founding Father".

James Kyprianos, former curator of the IHS, will discuss the founding of Ipswich by
John Winthrop, Jr., son of John Winthrop who led the Arbella fleet and became the governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
