SEPTEMBER 6th thru 9th

September 7th marks the 377th anniversary of Boston's creation as a formal political entity.

On September 7, 1630, Trimountaine was renamed Boston and declared the capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Boston Charter Day events highlight the civic spirit, longstanding institutions and first-class cultural and intellectual life of Boston.

2007 Charter Day Events are coordinated by The Partnership of the Historic Bostons.

Three distinguished panelists will explore the present-day legacy of the 17th century founders of Boston and the Massachusetts Bay Colony as represented by treasures preserved in local historical and cultural collections today.

Museum staff will present an insider’s view of the preparation and assembly of an upcoming exhibit of the Commonwealth’s Treasures. The museum is planning to display rare original materials from the Massachusetts Archives collections; including Royal Charters, the Declaration of Independence, and the Bill of Rights. The panel will discuss exhibit design and content, the use of technology in the interactive displays, and rare document conservation issues.

The tour, which runs for two hours, is guided by Professor Will Holton of Northeastern University, President of The Partnership of the Historic Bostons or Stephen Busby, a professional tour guide in Boston since 1993 and Tour Manager for the Boston Stock Exchange.
